David Moyes gets defender and wants more

Defender Emerson Palmieri has signed with West Ham for an undisclosed fee, signing a four-year contract that includes the option of an extension to a further year. West Ham United completed the signing of left-back Emerson Palmieri from Chelsea; the club announced Tuesday. Since moving to Stamford Bridge from Roma in 2018, Palmieri has failed to establish himself as a regular. He spent last season on loan at Lyon. The team managed by David Moyes is now last in the Premier League after three games.

The Emerson transfer was close to collapsing last week, as West Ham struggled to agree on personal terms with Emerson, but now an agreement has been reached, with the Italian deciding on a four-year contract. Lazio is now aware that Chelsea’s Emerson Palmieri is preparing to leave Chelsea to join West Ham United, instead reuniting with Blues manager Maurizio Sarri.

Gianluca Scamacca from Sassuolo for £30 million, Nayef Aguerd from Rennes for £30 million, and Maxwel Cornet from Burnley for £17.5 million are the three players who have cost the Hammers the most money. Additionally, they acquired goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, and defender Thilo Kehrer from Paris St-Germain for a maximum reported £10 million. They also acquired midfielder Flynn Downes for £12 million from Swansea.

Lucas Paqueta of Lyon has drawn a proposal from West Ham in the amount of €40 million (£33.75 million). The player’s representatives are in London and are hoping to reach an agreement with a Premier League club before the transfer window closes. The clubs are still in communication. Paqueta has three years left on his deal with Lyon after playing for Lyon against West Ham in the Europa League last year.

Despite Club Brugge’s desire to keep him, Vanaken is under contract until the summer of 2025 and is interested in moving to the London Stadium. This summer, West Ham submitted two offers for the Belgian international, the first of which was rejected. The Hammers have been made aware by the current Belgian champions that both offers were much below what Vanaken would reasonably be expected to get. West Ham wants Vanaken and has continued negotiations with Club Brugge, but they are ready to end the discussions if the Belgians do not reduce their demand. With just one week until the transfer window closes, West Ham is now proactively looking for replacements for the 30-year-old. In 50 appearances across all competitions for Club Brugge in the 2021–2022 season, Vanaken scored 15 goals and provided 12 assists. He has one goal in six games so far this season.
