West Ham will face French side Lyon in this season’s Europa League quarter-finals. West Ham United was watching their first European trophy since 1999 when they won the UEFA Intertoto Cup, but they have to surpass Lyon, who beat Portugal’s Porto. West Ham beat six-time record-holders Sevilla in this season’s Champions League RO 16 and will be home to experienced Lyon before heading to France for the second leg. West Ham will host Lyon in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-final at London Stadium on April 7 before West Ham travels to France.

West Ham United has never faced Lyon in their history, and this will be the first time this tie will happen. West Ham is currently trying to get to the fourth spot in the Premier League, which will help them play in the Champions League next season. Last season David Moyes‘ team did their best to get to the fourth spot, but the other heavyweights in the league denied the possibility. David Moyes has been exceptionally good with West Ham and has developed the team in many areas; he has made West Ham a team that goes head to head with the other big clubs. West Ham United has gained positive results this season against the big six clubs in England.

West Ham has played good football in the European competition and is the only English team that has come so far this season. Defeating the club with a good record in the tournament Sevilla in the previous games was a massive achievement for the Hammers; they were trailing 1-0 after the first leg played in Sevilla. West Ham was playing in front of their fans who were out there motivating the team, which helped the players to put in their best performances. They had to wait until the 112th minute for the winner as Yarmolenko scored in the Extra time to book a quarter-final spot.

In the race to the top four, they faced a heavy defeat against Tottenham Hotspur, who played at home. Hammers tried their level best to at least level the game, but Son had other ideas as he scored his second and Tottenham’s third in the 88th minute to settle the game in favour of Spurs. The fourth spot is a bit difficult to reach as there are more than two teams closer to it. The other way to get the Champions League is to win the Europa League, where they first face Lyon in the quarters. If they win the tie, they go up against the tournament favourites FC Barcelona or Frankfurt as these two teams play in the other quarters.

Going against the French side Lyon, West Ham is likely to win this game as their playing style may trouble them.
