West Ham have long awaited a striker that has had that special factor and can fire up their proverbial engine, however, have they found their man in the form of Sébastien Haller
The 24-year-old Frenchman signed for the Hammers from Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt and it’s safe to say he had a successful time at the club.
Having spent two seasons at the German club, Haller made a total of 58 appearances and putting the ball into the back of the net twenty-nine times.
These stats show how consistent he can be despite at one stage last season going five games without scoring which could potentially be a concern.
As well as being a proven goalscorer at a top level, Haller helped Frankfurt to a DFB Pokal victory in 2018 when they defeated Bayern Munich in the final.
He was also a major part of the clubs run to the semi final’s of last season’s Europa League semi finals where they would eventually lose to eventual champions Chelsea on penalties.
When it comes to strikers West Ham have lacked someone who has that extra edge and creativity about them.
Take Marko Arnautovic for example.
Before his controversial departure to Chinese super league club Shanghai SIPG, he grabbed a total of twenty-one goals for the Hammers. His real downside was the lack of creativity he brought to the East London club often not linking well with players who surrounded him.
Haller has more creativity and can also adapt to playing on the wing, something he did during his time in the Bundesliga. That was helped massively playing alongside Luka Jovic and Ante Rebic, with the aforementioned moving to La Liga side Real Madrid.
This creativity is what in my eyes West Ham will need if they are to push for a Europa League spot in the upcoming season.
Haller will no doubt play up front with Javier Hernandez as a potential back up alongside Antonio.
This utilisation as a midfielder could play into Pellegrini’s hand well with the Frenchman being able to link up with new signing Pablo Fornals who himself can play out wide but is naturally born midfielder.
So it is without doubt that Haller will be a player to watch next season and he could perhaps be the reason the Irons climb the Premier League table.
